FAQs

How young can my child start lessons?

In my studio, I work with kids as young as 5 years old on either piano or cello. I am happy to interview students younger than that to gauge physical and mental development. If a student is particularly interested in music study but is younger than 5, I may refer the student to my wife Lianna as she has a wonderful gift with younger students.

What kind of program or method do you follow?

I create very individualized courses of study for each of my students. Some want very intensive classical training while others have more recreational goals in mind. While I do incorporate pieces and styles that each student is interested in, I always provide a solid foundation of technique and understanding of musical concepts and artistry.

How much should the student practice?

In order for both the student and teacher to see consistent progress, a beginning student in my studio should be practicing 5-6 days a week. Depending on the age and level, students may be asked to practice anywhere between 20 minutes to 2 hours a day.

Do you have recitals?

Yes! It is very important for students to perform as much as they can from as early an age as possible. I personally host at least 4 recitals each school year. I also encourage my students to perform in many community recitals throughout the year.
